Kupwara, Aug 11 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir police chief Friday said that arrangements are being ensured for smooth conduct of Independence Day and a series of meetings have been held in this regard at different levels. Jammu and Kashmir police Chief Dilbagh Singh, Monday visited north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. During the visit the police chief inaugurated several buildings. He was accompanied by the ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, DIG North Kashmir, SSP Kupwara and Handwara. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, the police chief as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that Jammu and Kashmir police has always been very committed to channelize the energy of youth towards right directions. “We aim to make change together. We are committed to bring a change from an environment of killings to a positive direction. Our support has always been there for the good of youth.” About the Muharram procession after almost three decades, the DGP said that they want to ensure all social and religious functions/ gatherings without any fear and scare. Citing an example the police chief said that Home Minister of India Amit Shah in his address to the parliament talked about the successful conduct of Muharram procession in Kashmir valley. “All such is due to the coordination of security agencies including Police, army, others and civil administration as well. The procession was held peacefully which is a good sign. Religious leaders also deserve appreciation for smooth and peaceful conduct.” About the Independence Day arrangements, the police chief said that preparations are underway. “Series of meetings were held at different levels. Lieutenant governor of J&K Manoj Sinha also held a meeting with regard to the arrangements. Meri Maati Mera Desh program is ongoing these days. Tiranga rallies are being organized across the region. All new buildings constructed are being dedicated to police martyrs. A major Tiranga rally is scheduled on 13th of this month,” he said. Regarding the visit, he said that a SOG, Police Chowki, canteen and many other buildings were inaugurated during the visit today. “An inter-forces conference hall will also be inaugurated here. The conference hall aims to provide single roof for major important meetings.” Appreciating the increasing footfall of border tourism, the J&K police chief said that he is happy to see it picking so well. “There are a lot of places which were prone to infiltration and ceasefire. Desperate attempts were made in the past to disrupt peace through these places. After all attempts to disrupt the situation were foiled, people have started to visit these places. Visitors want to go to these places on the LoC. These places are very beautiful thus attracting everyone. Keran, Teethwal, Bungus, Gurez and Lolab are some of places that interest everyone,” the Jammu and Kashmir police chief said. “Together security forces like, Police, Army, BSF, CRPF and others are ensuring a peaceful environment in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces have been able to make people feel secure. Making sure people are going to see these places. We are facilitating them in every manner,’’ he said—(KNO)
